Fair Districts update:
As of September 19th the Fair Districts Ballot Initiative has collected 142,000 signatures out of the 305,000 + signatures required to get on the November, 2018 ballot. As well as total number of signatures, Fair Districts must get 5% of the total of gubernatorial votes in the last gubernatorial election in 44 out of 88 Ohio counties. Medina County is on track to be one of the 44 that gets 5%+ signatures.
Signature collectors in Medina County can be proud as together we have collected 86% of our 5% and will be one of the 44 counties to make the 5%! Exciting! Of course, there are other people collecting all over Medina County, but Medina County Together has turned in over 1200 signatures from Medina County and more than 600 signatures from other counties.
Sincere appreciation to those people in Medina County Together who have collected Fair Districts signatures for their dedication and time– it is not easy.

Time has come to call Senator Portman, again, and let him know our opinion on the latest attempt to repeal the Affordable Healthcare Act. The bill named after its sponsors Senators Graham, Cassidy, Heller, and Johnson, is hatched out of urgency: the Senate would not be able to vote a reconciliation bill (with a 51 vote majority) after the end of the fiscal year, September 30th, weeks before the CBO could evaluate its impact on healthcare benefits and also the healthcare industry.
Under its terms, states would receive and manage block grants from the federal government. Medicaid would become a capped program funded per capita starting in 2020. Medicaid expansion would phase out by 2027 and cost sharing subsidies would disappear in 2020. Employer and individual mandates would no longer be enforced. States would apply for waivers under the condition that “they must have adequate and affordable coverage for pre-existing conditions” affecting the definition and coverage of essential health benefits and the determination of premiums depending on age.
Ohio Governor John Kasich has already co-signed a bipartisan letter opposing this bill and urging the Senate to consider pursuing the bipartisan effort initiated by Chairman Lamar Alexander and Ranking Member Patty Murray of the Health, Education, Labor and Pension Committee for a comprehensive reform of the healthcare system.
Senator Portman has indicated that he will support this latest healthcare bill!
Call his offices at these numbers and tell him to vote NO.

Thank you for all your hard work collecting signatures for Fair Districts! Medina County Together gatherers are doing great. You have gathered and turned in 1200 unverified Medina County Signatures including 552 signatures turned in just this week, which will go into the September count plus 330 signatures from other counties.
As always, they were happy to see Medina County petitions come through the door at the League of Women Voters and were thrilled with the number of full petitions. Well done!
As of the end of August Medina County was at 42% and on track to be one of the 44 counties that gets to 5%, critical in order to file the ballot initiative. Fair Districts considers Medina a focus county and is urging signature gatherers in counties that have met their quota to consider gathering in Medina.
We could use help collecting signatures and would love to come and talk with community groups and churches about the Fair Districts Ballot Initiative.
Keep collecting signatures - the more we collect- the quicker we’re done!
