On Thursday June 29th, members of Sustainable Medina County turned in 6494 signatures to the Medina County Board of Elections.
The petition campaign brought together over 60 volunteers to collect signatures to give all the people in Medina County a chance to vote on a County Charter in November. This is direct democracy by the people; what we will be celebrating over the next few days.
The Charter includes a Community Bill of Rights allowing Medina County citizens to assert their right to a clean and safe environment. With basically the same County Government in place, all Medina voters would also gain voting and referendum rights on projects initiated by industries.
Sustainable Medina County volunteers were able to get well over the required amount of signatures. After verification of these signatures, the County Board of Elections will hold a public meeting, currently scheduled for July 10th at 3pm, to present their report and vote on certifying this initiative for the November 2017 ballot.
Strengthened by the large support encountered during the signature collection, Sustainable Medina County hopes to see volunteers as well as concerned citizens for this meeting. Let’s make sure the Board of Elections gets the message loud and clear that the people of Medina County want the chance to be part of the decision and not just the four Board of Election Board Members who will vote to certify it.
Please join us July 10, 2017 Medina County Board of Elections, 3800 Stonegate Drive, Suite C. Plan to arrive by 2:50 as they will start the meeting promptly at 3:00 PM.
