On Thursday August 3d, 2017, the US Senate voted to confirm two republicans, Neil Chatterjee ( Sen Mitch McConnell Energy Advisor) and Robert Powelson (Pennsylvania Public Utility Commissioner) as Federal Energy Regulatory Commissioners, thus restoring a voting quorum at FERC and the ability to issue permits.
Cheryl LaFleur (currently acting as Chairwoman), is the only democrat in the traditionally bipartisan commission.
As soon as Friday, August 4th, Nexus Gas Transmission LLC issued a request to FERC for Prompt Commission Action that would allow them to start “proceeding with tree clearing as well as other environmental activities, necessary to commence pipeline construction”.
With an appeal still pending on the County Charter initiative ballot issue and local commissioners deaf to their concerns, concerned citizens of Medina County are left with very limited time and means to oppose Nexus and the compressor station in Wadsworth.
